The meeting was also attended by scores of national and international sports leaders and winners of the 4th edition of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award, in a grand ceremony held yesterday afternoon at Jumeirah Beach Hotel.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, conferred the creativity & excellence medals on 16 Emirati, Arab and international creative athletes. HH congratulated the honorees for their contribution to consolidate the culture of innovation, excellence.
Sheikh Hamdan said the Award was launched by Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to recognise and celebrate Emirati, Arab and international top sports achievers and out of his vision that sports is a human message and an effective channel of direct communication and interaction among nations, especially among youngsters who bear down on sports of all kinds.
HH called all honorees and other athletes to observe values & genteel sports behaviour and passed them on to successive generations so that sport remains a sublime mission, away from regional and personalintolerance.
The ceremony was also attended by Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan, Chairman of Al Ain Soccer Company; Sheikh Saud bin Hamad Al Thani, Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee; Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Award’s Board of Trustees; Yousef Al Serkal, First Deputy Chairman of the National Olympic Committee cum President of UAE Football Federation; Major General Khamees Mattar bin Muzainah, Deputy Commander in Chief of Dubai Police; Mohammed Al Kamali, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee, and a number of UAE sports federations heads.
The function was also attended by international sports personalities led by Sepp Blatter, FIFA president; and Sergei Bubka, President of the Ukraine Olympic Committee; Andrew Hunt, Secretary General of the British Olympic Committee and the legend Diego Maradona, honorary ambassador for sport in Dubai.
The honorees and awardees included the Year Sports Personality, Osman Al Saad from Saudi Arabia along with Sheikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa of Bahrain for her role in enriching women sports movement in her country and the Arab world. Jack Rouge IOC President was also honored as the international Sports Personality of the Year along with other local, Arab and international individuals and institutions.
Joseph Blatter, FIFA President received a special honor for attending the ceremony and was handed over the first invitation to participate in 5th Award’s edition.
Blatter: The world needs such initiatives
Joseph Blatter, FIFA President said, “The world needs initiatives such as the "Mohammed bin Rashid Award for Creative Sports" in order to upgrade the social and cultural work through sport.”
“The initiative of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, nurtures an environment capable of creating sports champions in the future,” he added.
“Women sport world needs support in the Arab world, and I think such Award serves it best,” he continued.
16 honorees crowned with medals of excellence
16 winners were feted with medals of excellence by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, and HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the National Olympic Committee, Chairman of the Award, flanked by Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Award’s Board of Trustees.
The winners were: Othman Al Saad (The Arab Sports Figure), Sheikha Hayat bint Abdul Aziz Al Khalifa (Arab Sports Figure contributed to the enrichment of the women Sports),along with Nawal El Moutawakel, Vice President of International Olympic Committee who received the Award on behalf of Jacques Rogge, IOC President who was chosen as International Sports Personalityof the Year, and Saud bin Hamad Al Thani, Secretary General Qatar Olympic Committeewon the Corporate Sport Creativity.
At the UAE level, Abdullah Sultan Hamad Masoud Al Ariany won the Individual Sport Creativity Award, Hamed Mohammed Ahmed Al Rousy won the Best Referee Award, and Marwan bin Ghulaitah, Chaiman of Al Nasr Sports Cultural Club, bagged the Collective Creativity Award, while Mohammed bin Thaaloub Al Diree, Chairman of the UAE Wrestling, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu and Kick Boxing Federation nabbed the Creative Corporate Sports Award.
Tawfiq Makhloufi Younis Ahmed Saleh was decorated with the Individual Sport Creativity Award, having won the 1500 meter race in London Olympic Games 2012. Jibril Mahmoud Mohammed Rajoub, Chairman of the Palestine National Olympic Committee clinched the Administrative Sport Creativity Award; whereas the British National Olympic Committee won the Creative Corporate Sports Award at the International Level, in recognition of its efforts of hosting London Olympic Games 2012.
